Fun Facts You Might Not Know...

I just happened across an interesting webpage and thought I'd share some interesting tidbits I picked up:

1. In the weightlessness of space a frozen pea will explode if it comes in contact with Pepsi.

2. The increased electricity used by modern appliances is causing a shift in the Earth's magnetic field. By the year 2327, the North Pole will be located in mid-Kansas, while the South Pole will be just off the coast of East Africa.

3. The Boeing 747 is capable of flying upside-down if it weren't for the fact that the wings would shear off when trying to roll it over.

4. If you put a bee in a film canister for two hours, it will go blind and leave behind its weight in honey.

5. Manatees possess vocal chords which give them the ability to speak like humans, but don't do so because they have no ears with which to hear the sound.

6. SCUBA divers cannot pass gas at depths of 33 feet or below.

7. Replying more than 100 times to the same piece of spam e-mail will overwhelm the sender's system and interfere with their ability to send any more spam.

8. Polar bears can eat as many as 86 penguins in a single sitting.

9. In 1843, a Parisian street mime got stuck in his imaginary box and consequently died of starvation.

10. The Air Force's F-117 fighter uses aerodynamics discovered during research into how bumblebees fly.

11. You *can* get blood from a stone, but only if contains at least 17 percent bauxite.

I'd like to share a story...

Well, I've finally gotten round to uploading some of my new stuff -- although I still haven't got the heart to scan any old ones. I guess I just don't want to compare what I can do now with what I could do then.

You see, art and I go way, way back. When I was younger, I experimented with every possible kind of art imaginable be it sculpting, painting, drawing, pastels, oils and digital art. For me, making and looking at art was both a pleasure and a way to channel my creative side. As I entered my teens, art offered me a chance to escape real life and work off stress, anger and tension for a few hours everyday.

Then something awful happened: an art teacher told me I was good, very good in fact. This in itself wasn't bad news exactly but it was the flame that ignited a thousand wildfires. I began entering competitions and drawing realistic portraits, still lifes and landscapes that did not interest me. The more times I won, the more sucessive rounds I would go on to do and the less time I had to draw what I wanted to draw.

What I had once loved and cherished became a nightmare that I couldn't escape from. What had once been a joy became nothing but a misery. When I was around fifteen, i couldn't take it anymore. I didn't want the honours or the awards. I was sick to death of art and so I quit and I moved on. I tried other hobbies and other activites and went on with my life.

I didn't draw anything for three years. Not one thing. I didn't want to and couldn't stand the thought. But art is and always will be in my blood.

A few months ago, I picked up a pencil and began doodling furing my Contemporary Literature class. It wasn't realistically rendered. The proportions were awful. The shading was mediocre at best. But this drawing evoked something inside me that no "good" art ever could: I was enjoying myself.

So I began drawing again. Not to be the best or to make a career out of it but just to hold onto the joy of creating. Breathing life into something from nothing is a beautiful gift that we all share. I'm not saying it's not important to be good. I'm not saying that at all.

I'm saying that as long as you continue to draw, always remember that the greatest thing about art is that capacity to inspire not only the viewer but the creater's heart inside you.

Thanks for reading.

Shout out!

First off, thanks to all these amazing deviants! You guys rock! :)

I've had a pretty hectic week what with an exam to write and three term papers all due one after the other! Thankfully this torturous semester is about to end on Tuesday when I hand my final English paper in! I'll be uploading a ton of deviations on that day, joy-oh-joy ;)

See you all then!

Ciao,

Vryn
